There's a synth based sound I recently came across that I really like and have been trying to deconstruct it, not to rip it off but just out of interest to try to understand what's going on but haven't nailed it at all.
The sound in question can be heard on this track, it's the 'gated/Amp LFO' & Flanged? chord type sound that comes in immediately and throughout.
I wondered if any synth heads might be able to shed any light on what's going on in the make up of the sound. Here's the youtube track and I'll add what I tried underneath ( not really got close though )
Ok, I'm not sure if it's a chord or not so I might be barking up the wrong tree right away but I had a 3 osc patch set up on a subtractive synth both using pulse waves and one osc set to white noise which was mixed in heavily.
One osc had PWM - which gave it an inherent phasey quality and I used an inbuilt chorus and controlled the width to get more phasey in the overall sound.
I then set an LFO to modulate the Amp envelope at a free running rate with a sine wave for the LFO- I tried 16t first but it sounded too mechanical. Then I added Abletons stock Flanger effect and this is where it just ruined the sound and made it even further off the effect I liked.
So would anyone be able to identify anything in the sound that I could experiment with that I might be over looking? Even just to identify that flanging effect and what could be making it. I presume its a flanger anyway?
