My DIY music video + Is commercial music dead?

Hi everyone! I am going to post here a link to my music video. I made it for a class with my smartphone camera, and the song I made with Logic Express 8 and a session singer I hired. The song was made last year.

Now, I'd like you guys to check it out, give me feedback, and of course it's nice to get some more views. I am really bad self-promotion. This brings me to the main question in this post:

The reason I am so daunted by promotion is not only because I have a tendency to hide, but mainly that the state of "the world of art", commercially that is [since the only widely available communal art is still on a commercial platform—i.e. the industry still holds the key to the doors of the world Bandstand], is gone to ... bad. It's gone really, really bad and we all know it.

My belief is that a general change in the global pop culture, the industrial culture, has led to a trend that leads not only the system but to people stifling creativity, consciousness expansion, emotional expression, love and happiness. The system of the 1%ers has finally convinced everyone to give up the quest for spiritual unity. Even the most mainstream music from the 50s to 80s, spoke of the plight of the human spirit, and denounced the greed and anti-human tendencies of the "military-industrial complex". Now, it is actually the opposite -- the new music is PRO-system, it's all about greed: "come join us, you can't win -- be a ***** of Babylon with us". People like Kesha, etc., are essentially just *****s of Babylon, and I don't mean that religiously, but artistically.

Think of this: the most popular music video on MTV up until recently, ever, was Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer". He is a very consciousness-expanding, humanist artist, whose lyrics encourage people to stand up to the soullessness of the system. His music was incredibly popular, and it was genuine art on every level. Compare this to the stuff on MTV now, and the stuff that's popular in every genre. Even classical music has gone totally evil. They oppose originality and creativity. The song I made in the link above has been ignored by every label I send it to. I checked out their music, that they release enthusiastically, and it just as conformist, emotionally blank, timid, and anti-human as the music in pop, indie rock, etc. It's like money itself has become a maker of evil.

Is productivity and evolution now incompatible? Has it become as black and white as I see it? Have they succeeded in removing the ears of the masses, and thus permanently stifling the voice of the spirit? Has functioning in the modern world, in "the system", become incompatible with anything "good" (for fields of work that are beyond practical, such as academia, newspapers, TV and film, etc.). Sure, something genuine and pure, and good, comes out once in a while in the commercial world of art. But it is rare, and it is hardly as original and courageous as anything up to the late '90s. It is almost like an "offering" just to placate the critics and audience members who aren't afraid to stick to their guns and look at this reality in the eye.

I refuse to be coerced into accepting this new trend as natural, and I am horrified at how many of even my friends and family have gone from being "connoisseurs" to being totally brainwashed: they like anything they're told to like, even if it's quality and "vibe" is absolutely horrible and stifling.

Is this the new reality of society?? Thoughts, please. I think the topic of this post, although perhaps too much of a rant of my own, should encourage some lively discussion. Don't be afraid to say exactly what you want, and don't be ashamed if you're one of those who has had "sell out" in order to make money: that is not bad, even though it is sad--after all, we all need money, and many don't have an alternate skills to music-making in order to make a living.

Finally -- am I perhaps jumping the gun, and being too superficial myself? Many say what is really happening is the market has "fractured" -- there is now infinite "niches", all over the Internet, etc. There is just no more mass-marketed "heros" like Peter Gabriel, Prince, and so on, in the pop world. (Lady Gaga is okay, and some others, but they are just nothing compared to those older ones, in terms of genuineness, I believe). Maybe I will find my niche, and instead of getting excited and disappointed, I should analyze the reality and try to find my niche in it. This is another purpose of this thread -- to get advice, and help, in navigating through this radically new and different world.

Thanks for your patience, and all the best.
