Hello,
I currently use a Saffire Pro 40, and although I like the unit - I would like to upgrade to a unit with better converters, better mic pres (if included) and the ability to use line in inputs for external pres that actually bypass the built in ones, unlike the Saffire.
To begin to combat this, I have a UA 4-710d which I use via. ADAT and run external preamps through it's extra 4 channels of A/D conversion and into the Saffire. However I would like to add more external pres.
Is the Apollo a significant step up in terms of mic pre and conversion? The advantages I can see is that it actually has 4 separate line inputs + the 4x mic pre/4x line in + it includes a UAD device, which I've been considering for a little while.
So, by using an Apollo I get 4x Apollo Pres, 4x UA 710 Pres & 8 channels of line input A/D conversion for external preamps.
The Lynx Aurora, whilst it doesn't include any mic pres, has 16 out, useful for if I expand to analogue summing in the future. Again, is this considerably better than the Apollo in terms of conversion?
I welcome your feedback/advice!
Thanks.
