Printing tracks. How did some of you "old timers" handle it back when tape was all you had? I remember ping-pongin on my first Fostex cassette 8tr when I was a kid and I definitely remembered the tape noise building up after getting my drums and bass on a stereo track! I know that sometimes you just went for it and tracked with all the compression and eq going in on the front end, but what about mixing with dynamics processors and eq's after you have tracked everything? Didn't you end up compressing and eqing tape hiss along with the actual track? Was NR pretty much the norm by the 70's? I wanna know what it was like.
