Hi All,
I work for a video game company, we mostly deal with music and sound design, but I've lately taken on a project that is extremely heavy in V/O. This game in particular has over 20 different levels, and each level has about 300 V/O assets. They're mostly short, less then 3 seconds, so we're able to do each level in on 3-4 hr session.
It seems like we're having trouble keeping the sounds even. All 300 assets can pop up at random and I can hear a disconnect at times, especially if it's two phrases from different points in the session.
There's a few points that I'm looking for advice on:
1. How much compression do you normally apply on the way in? I've got good mics, and a LA3, but I'm really using it to catch peaks, should I be slamming it more? I'm up for recommendations if you don't think that's the right compressor.
2. Techniques to keep the VO artist focused, and how to position them best so things sound even as well as up-front
3. Workflow advice. It feels like cheating to batch process, but it feels completely overwhelming to scrutinize every 3 second phrase. What helps you guys keep things in check?
Thanks in advance!
