Trademark a Band Name? Get a Lawyer?

I've had a logo for my music project made and I am going to get it trademarked. The logo includes the band name. Do you recommend getting a lawyer to assist with the filing process? I've heard from several musicians that it id difficult to make the claim without a lawyer and it is probably necessary to hire one. On the other end, I've heard from a patent lawyer that it is probably not necessary to hire a lawyer to file a claim. I would love to hear your experiences on the subject. Thanks in advance,
