I am finally looking to upgrade my home studio setup. I currently use a mackie 1604 VLZ (total work horse) with the delta 1010. It's a great set-up and I have no complaints about the audio quality but I record a lot of local bands with pro-gear and have been doing this with only 8 inputs going in. There are so many wires too!
I am between purchasing another delta 1010 or a mackie onyx firewire which will give me more inputs, some nice pre's and the ability to do live work/mobile recording. I currently use some API-clone preamps, so the onyx pre's aren't the biggest asset to me, but still attractive. Is it worth moving away from the PCI based system to firewire? Has anyone made this move? Spending another $200 for a 2nd Delta when I can purchase a onyx for $850 seems silly to me.
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Upgrading: Stay with Delta 1010 or go Mackie Onyx 1640i?
