I would simply like to take the time to thank every.. single ...Slut that unknowingly guided me on my journey to make the absolute best purchase I could, within the budget I had.
I record primarily Rap artists & had a busted ass, half ass working Blue "Dragonfly" mic, & a Digi 002 as my only pieces of gear. AND I HATED THE SOUND. On every single artist. So it's tax return time, I figured if I was gunna upgrade now is the time.
So I went off to the forums. I read thread after thread and noticed a specific piece of gear kept popping up with great reviews..everywhere
........... It was the ART PRO MPA II.
Keep in mind I only had about $300 to spend on a preamp upgrade from the 002 pre's. So my choice was crucial. I finally decided to go for it and purchase it new from Amazon. Along with a New mic. The Blue - "Bluebird".
Now let me say this, I am ecstatic about the quality Recordings I am getting! I am in absolute love with this sexy piece of pre! I wanna thank you guys so much, the preamp market is over saturated with gear that it got confusing, until I came here that is. I did the Ol' tube switcheroo, put a Tung-sol in one channel, and a j.j. In the other...just for subtle variations of character. My signal chain now is the bluebird mic, going into the Art pro mpa ii,
Then into a DBX 266xl compressor shaving off 3db at most, with a 1:31 ratio, medium attack, fast release. The results I'm getting sound polished and dare I say it......almost pro sounding! (to my ears) completely raw into pro tools! No ITB Processing at all...thr tracks sound fantastic going in completely FXCKING raw! I'm excited! Yessssss! I have been getting chappy sound no matter what I did, where I moved the mic, how much the room was treated...nothing mattered. I had a very shitty signal chain. And you nice guys and gals here pointed me in the direction I desperately needed to find. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This means the world to me. I would highly
Recommend this Setup for rap vocals. Bluebird mic, Art pro mpa ii, dbx 266xl. Recorded 4 different rap artists in the last 3 days and sounds great on every single one. Thank you guys. I can't say it enough.
