8 track reel to reel

Hey slutz.



I m looking into upgrading my reel to reel. Right now i use a TASCAM TSR-8 which is ok, but i guess far away from what is possible with tape.



I m looking into either a MCI JH110-8 or an OTARI MX5050-8.



My biggest concern, as I m not technically skilled and dont want to spend fortunes on service is how do these machines compare to the TASCAM in terms of reliability? I ve only ever had to replace the belt on the TASCAM, otherwise its rock-solid.

What do i need to look out for on the MCI and OTARI?



How much of a sonic difference is between the 3?



How are the preamps of the MCI? Am i able to use them seperatly as well, without recording to tape?



Which one would you pick and what would you pay for either of those? I m located in Holland, so prices are a bit more steep than in the states i guess.



If there are other decks i might not be aware of, feel free to mention them.



One last thing - if anyone has a rough estimate on the weight of the OTARI that would be much obliged.
