What do you guys think of the Access Virus? I haven't much experience with this synth at all and until now I haven't considered it but a mate of mine wants to sell his for about 1500 approx (CAD).
Could it replace a bunch of high quality VST's like Diva, Ace, Bazille, Arturia SEM and Prophet VS?
Does it offer the kind of quality analogue modelling that one can get with U-he's Diva? Are there any hardware synths that offer that? Most of the hardware modelling synths I've heard can't touch U-he's Diva unfortunately.
I'm flirting with the idea of getting out of the box. My imac recently had a spaz and it cost about 400 to repair. This was a kind of reminder that hardware is more than just sounds. This triggered a reevaluation of the role of a traditional computer in my music. The current line of thinking is to reduce it's role to storage and editing only. Back to old school essentially. Analogue front end (6 channels strips made up of Rupert Neve preamps, SSL black EQ's and 1176 Compressors) and computer is used only for storage and editing (post production). Working with audio rather than Midi. I don't think I want to treat my computer like an instrument any longer.
I have a Blofeld and Kurzweil pc3k8 at the moment as well as a Prophet 08 and Matrix 6. Would something like the Virus help cover the ground software covers at the minute? I was thinking of picking up a cheap DX7 for FM (maybe the desktop module TX7?) if needed.
