My home studio lair is three doors/three plaster walls away from where wifey sleeps. I tend to monitor at decently low levels but at eleven in the evening, when the surrounding suburban area turns quiet, the mindnumbing repetetive thud from the bass drum can be really irritating for her even at my normal mix level.
I don't mind turning down the volume. But sometimes I forget, and sometimes I lose perspective of how loud it actually is.
So: how do I measure the amount of BD bump that is heard three doors away?
I could pull out the db meter in my iphone, but it only has the normal a-b-c weightings so it doesn't say much about the amount of bass that gets through the walls. Even if I listen to a hi-hat at 90 db it's probably not heard at all a few rooms away.
Any clever ideas?
P.S. Yes, I know that should perhaps turn of the computer and go and whisper tender words in her ear instead. But, hey, there is a time for everything ;)

How to measure if I disturb my wife?
