Hay Everybody
So I bought this BOSS CS-3 Compressor/Sustain Pedal the other day after seeing this youtube video on note articulation with gain. I was really amazed to say the least but I'm not really sure where to set the knobs and where to put the damn thing in my pedal chain for my gain to pop out more in the mix or at home alone. Not getting the most out of it i don't think because i'm doing it wrong?
I really just want all my notes on gain to pop out nice. When i stick it at the very end of my pedal chain the tone knob becomes very useful in cleaning things up a bit while at the same time taming the hi's from my metal zone. The sustain knob doesn't function very well at the end of the chain though and will start making a squash sound past 9pm.
The pop effect best way i can describe it is like a BWAAAOOW sound when hitting the e string really hard. And all the notes sound real hard, tight no matter how fast you're playing on a distorted guitar. I get plenty pop when the guitar is clean and compression on in the front but not so much when it's distorted? What do I do?
My SC-3 sounds really good at the end of my pedal chain and really smooths out the hi's that are present in the MT-2 metal zone but the pop is missing unless the distortion is off and I engage the other compressor in the beginning if my pedal chain. I tend to turn the tone knob of the SC-3 compressor all the way down and it makes the Metal Zone more listenable. Compression after distortion makes more of a difference but i may be doing something wrong?
If I'm using the compressor wrong and need to put it in the front, I would be very saddened but hay, I can always run back to the store and grab a pedal with just a tone knob and roll it all the way down? Not the same as rolling the tone knob down on your guitar because rolling a tone knob down after the distortion sounds a lot better. I like keeping my guitar tone knob on max to cut through better.
Hope I don't confuse anybody here. with before and after. It's basically like this: guitar>SC-2 Compressor & Metal Zone into NS-2 Noise Supressor loop > BF-2 Flanger into PS-3 Pitch delay into CS-3 Compressor into vintage MXR-10 band into randall rh200watt g2 series.
And no I will not get rid of my Metal Zone. There is nothing better out there and yes I've tried them all. There is nothing wrong with my METAL ZONE other than needing an eq pedal and a tone knob on the compressor to kill some hi's. I LOVE MY METAL ZONE PEDAL!
