Hi all!
I'm wanting to get a vintage sound for some recordings. The tape/mellow distortion vibe might be the one I'm after. I'm recording into a Logic and running tape emulators such as the Waves J37 and Waves Kramer Tape on the master track. While they're good, to me they still don't sound like the real thing. So I'm thinking of running my mixes to tape and putting them back to Logic. Any thought on this?
Here are some reel to reels I'm looking at:
Vintage Concord Reel TO Reel Tape Recorder Player | eBay
Sony Vintage 1960'S Tape Recorder TC 200 Reel TO Reel Portable Stereo 2 Track | eBay
My concerns are they due to the tape width, they would be TOO 'lo-fi'. If it is too lofi, I don't know if it's possible to 'dial in' how much tape sound I want to the mix. Also that the machine would be subject to failing components due to its age. I wonder if there are newer ones that can give me the sound I want?
I believe these guys run their mixes through tape, possibly on a reel to reel like the ones above? http://ift.tt/XiwRmH.
For the songs I am mixing, this sound is too lo-fi. I want it halfway there, if that makes sense :/ Something like this: http://ift.tt/1jK144o
Thanks in advance!
