the "Pete rock analog warmth".....!!

ok, this is the best way i can describe this....! but listening to a lot of 90's productions, you tend to hear a warmth in the mixing and it the sounds that i feel like is missing a lot of times in stuff today.....

at this point, with the exception for recording vocals (which i use a pre-amp) all my mixing is done in the box....my question is a 2 part question.

A.) in your opinion, what are some good analog warmer/analog channel type plug ins that are great for giving ur tracks the best warmth and fullness? what are the very best plugs ins to achieve that kind of sound?

B.) what is a good piece of the best "bang for the buck" outboard gear that a person can buy to run their tracks through to really give it that full, warm big sound that just makes it feel GOOD to your ears when you play it in the headphones?? a lot of my productions are sample driven, and a lot of the sounds are pulled from vinyl, but i still feel like running them through some kind of outboard gear that can help me achieve this sound would greatly improve my ability to mix my own material, which is my goal ultimately, would like to become more self reliant in achieving the sound i'm looking for...!

for the hip hop people that get what i'm talking about, please bestow your wisdom upon me....! ur imput is appriciated!

** BONUS question: i do have a pre-amp but only has a mono channel (imput for a quarter inch, like for bass guitars, and than an XLR for the mic) is there any way i can utilize this by running my tracks in protools through my preamp somehow to possibly supply that warmth an big sound?
