I was trying out the demo of Slate VTM and Uhe Satin. Both seemed to have alot of praise in these forums. What struck me by surprise was the odd character of the noise from Satin.
The VTM noise was pretty much what I was expecting comparing to the cassettes, portastudios, Tandbergs, B77s, TEACs etc I've used over the years. Compared to the snake whisper from VTM the noise from Satin sounded more like ham radio squelch. For me it was a complete turn off.
Noise is maybe something recording engineers has been trying to minimize for decades but in some cases I think it's desirable with a touch.
Am I doing something wrong to get this squelchy noise or what's your opinion on the noise character of Satin?
