Cubase sounds different when I use the play button on the trans. bar vs the space bar

So, I was doing a mix today, and as usual, used the space bar to stop and start the transport. I use my left hand for this. Halfway through, I grabbed some peanuts with my left hand, so I used my right hand to grab the mouse to click the play button on the transport bar. All of a sudden, I notice that the mix just sounded so much better. I mean, it was warmer, and had a ton more detail.
