Headphone amps of portable devices

Do headphone amps of portable devices like the iPod, iphone and cd Walkmans vary considerably? I have a few CD Walkmans and the more expensive ones are way better in SQ.



Could someone tell me how they're built or do they just vary in which op amps they use? Apples portable devices are good too.
