Where should i Save Samples and Logic Files

Heyyy,

This is a VERY newbie question and maybe a little embarrassing but i would like to know the best way to set up my computer when it comes to saving my Plug-ins/Software Synths, My Samples, My Logic Files.

I have been told that i shouldnt save my song files and samples on the same hardrive which is running my OS. Does this mean that i need to have Different External Hardrives/SSD's to save everything on?? If so how many should i have, and should i have an extra one just to back up files??

I would like any suggestions on the best way i should set up my computer? I would also like to know how you guys have set up your Systems?

I have been making music on Logic 9 for about a year now on friends computers and want to have my own set up where i can lock myself away in my room and learn as much as i can. I'm gonna go through each software synth, one by one and make sure that i master Logic X.

If it helps this is the set up i'm looking to invest in:

MacBook Pro (with Quad-Core Processor and 8 or 16Gb RAM)

Software Synths and Plug-Ins:

  • Native Instruments - Komplete

  • Spectrasonics - Omnisphere

  • Spectrasonics - Trillian

  • RE-FX - Nexus

  • EastWest - Hollywood Strings/Woodwinds/Brass

  • Rob Papen - Gladiator

  • Waves Plug-Ins

I'd be greatful for any advice. Thanks in Advance

P.S - This is my 1st Post so sorry if it was long winded. Peace!!!!!!kfhkh
