808 Help

Ive been producing in Ableton Live 9 for like 2 months, so i'm just starting. I was just wondering if anyone could help to get my 808's to sound like Dj Smokey or Yung Gud? like the really punchy ones. Do you think they use samples or create them in a VST? Should mess I with the pitch envelope? any info or tips would be appreciated.
