Hi, all
I already posted this in a Reaper forum, but thought that I could get useful advices from some of you here also, as I slightly changed the way of seeing the problem, since. So, still looking for a decent amp saturated guitar sound easily recordable, I am considering one of these :
- Laney IRT Studio
- Laney IRT 15H
- Blackstar HT 20 Studio head
...or equivalents, eventually. What makes me look to them is that they all seem to have a line output after the full preamp+amp stages, which are both tube driven, this without having to push the volume to a level uncompatible with fair neighbourhood ; guess you see what I mean...
So, does anyone have an experience with one of these or other suggestions ? And how does this kind of recording perform against a full amp+cabinet+mic set ?
Few examples of the kind of sounds I'm after :
- Neil young - 'Ramada Inn'. This one is probably stuck in my mind forever...
- David Gilmour - the intro of 'Shine on you crazy diamond' ('Wish you were here' Pink floyd album)
- Rolling Stones - 'Sway' ('Sticky fingers' album).
Gear already at disposal :
- Fender Stratocaster US, purchased more than 20 years ago and still perfectly in tune.
- Ibanez 'Les Paul' copy, which needs a serious servicing.
- Takamine TAN16C, mainly used as an acoustic one with a condenser mic.
- Zoom G9.2tt guitar board : great for experimenting, but no, 'vintage' saturation is not its main strength...
Budget : let's say 700 € max...
Thanks for any advice or suggestion... :)
