I'm writing this review from memory, it's about 10 years since I owned and used these mics!
I remember them as being smooth, clean, versatile performers. In particular I remember preferring them to other SDCs that I had access to at the time, which was SM81 or C1000s.
I always regretted selling them, and many SDCs I've used since, worth many times the price, sounded worse that these little Crowns. They're not in the same league as Neumann KM or other established go-to SDCs, but considering you can grab these for about $100 each second hand you can do a lot worse. They handle high SPLs so no fear hanging a pair over a heavy hitting drummer.
I have better options for SDCs these days, but I'm thinking of picking up a pair of CM700s again to have another color in the palate. If I do I'll report back with an updated review.
