Maybe it is a question where a lot of people would :facepalm: but i am struggling for days now with all these terms trying to find a right product for me.
I heard from a lot of people that connecting your expensive studio monitors or headphones to the 3.5 mm headphone plug straight in to the laptop is like throwing away sound quality. And this would be because of the fact that the sound card build inside the computer is not up for the job.
This is what i think these terms mean:
- DAC (Digital to Audio Converter) : a device that turns the zero's and ones out of your computer in to a audio signal.
- Preamp: makes the audio signal from the DAC ready to amplify ( by an amplifier).
- Audio interface: Is a device that contain inputs for usb, and for microphones and other hardware. And per input, It contains a DAC, a Preamp. And for the Headphone output, It contains a Headphone amp. on which you cant plug another headphone amp, because it will decrease the sound quality of the signal.
- Sound card- I havent got a single clue hjghfgg
