Bought Blackstar Core10 ID - I think it has much potential. However the lightweight cabinet is prone to rattling and buzzing at lower frequencies, and the little 3" drivers struggle with low frequency content. No complaints however, you get what you pay for, and IMHO, more, in this case...
I'm thinking of building a larger, heavier, well braced cabinet with (two) bigger drivers. The amp section on this combo seems to be removable... I'm thinking to put it in a separate enclosure and build a speaker cabinet with 18 mm birch ply...
a couple of questions -
1. Is there any reason why this idea is sure/likely to fail?
2. I'm looking at this Eminence Patriot 6 1/2" driver. Does anyone know a reason why this is or is not a good choice?
I am in India, and Eminence is almost the only economical option when it comes to easily available loudspeaker drivers... And a cabinet purchase at Sweetwater will cost me 3 x their price, thanks to shipping and customs... Besides, I am interested in DIY, and I have carpenters anyway working on other projects, so I can squeeze this in...
