playing korg synth using mpk49 midi controller

hi, i'm attempting to play my korg dw 8000 synth using my akai mpk49 midi controller. i hooked up a midi cable from the mpk's MIDI OUT going into the korg's MIDI IN and i set up the channel to 1 on the korg but i'm not getting the midi controller to play the korg for some reason?

Help?
