Studio Monitors for Tinnitus Sufferers

Hi Guys,

I developed tinnitus back in November 2009 after a long recording session on KRKs Rockit 8. had to stop for 6 months until I moved on and got back on music again but this time with intermittent tinnitus and hearing damage.

I replaced them with KRK VXT4s and so far so good. I did get some problems with them in 2011, I had to stop for a few weeks but I was back to 'normal' in no time.

Yesterday, I opened up Logic after about 2 months of not doing anything, I did a rough mastering of a track for a friend. I monitored at 65 - 70 db and after half an hour BOOM!! MY tinnitus flared back with a vengeance along with massive ear fatigue and pain in my ears.

I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF KRK'S!!

I'm looking into replacing them with far much less ear fatiguing monitors. I did a quick search and I found very good reviews on the ADAM A5X and the FOCALCMS65 regarding engineers with ear problems like me.

Anyone in the same situation like me can give me his/her opinion? What monitors do you use?

Note: I monitor in an acoustically treated studio room where the RT60 of the room is about 0.2 seconds from 200 HZ onwards. Does this affect how I am hearing in the room?

Thankyou very much.

Steve
