I would like to construct about four baffles, approximately 3'x3' to baffle my 1x12 guitar cab for recording. My objective is merely to cut down on the sound level in the room so that I can monitor (while recording the guitar) more accurately.
I realize that no baffle arrangement will silence the cab, but I already record at moderate volume with 18 watt amps, often attenuated. I just want to cut down on the guitar sound in the room and hopefully for others in the building somewhat (this is a home studio).
I'd basically like to make a box shape out of the baffles in order to box in the front of the amp (which will be close-miked with a 57 and Royer 121). This will NOT be an isolation box, just separate panels placed strategically around the amp to cut down (hopefully significantly) on the sound level in the room.
The question is what materials and thickness (Rockwool? 703?) should I be looking at? And any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks much.
