I'm looking over the 33609 schematic and trying to reason out why Neve would NOT unbalance the signal right after the input transformer. They unbalance it after the interstage transformer.
It seems to me that you could have the same result, and possibly better, if you unbalance at the input transformer, use half of the compression diodes and then rebalance at the output.
This is just a theory question and I am not attempting to change a vintage unit so don't freak out.
Anybody?

33609 almost completely balanced.... Why?
