ANOTHER low latency monitoring thread..

This is driving me mad.

Quick system spec:

11 (11.1.2) HD Native Thunderbolt,

Late 2012 Mac Mini

2.6 i7

I cannot for the life of me figure LLM out properly.

I'm fairly sure I have it set up properly, although I'm not certain.

I've enabled LLM in hardware set up for my HD I/o and given it an output and selected it in the options in the session.

In this case I was recording a guitar.

I still feel that the playback engine buffer size affects the latency even with LLM engaged. Is this correct.

Am I right in thinking that 'Main Out' can't be used for LLM because it's a bussed output?

Also, one of the things I find confusing is that I can input monitor no problems. But then as soon as I hit play, I can no longer monitor the input. It mutes it. Signal is still being displayed on the track meters which I am attempting to input monitor. It just isn't coming out of the speakers so to speak.

Unless... I hit record. Then I can play along or whatever with the track and hear everything as normal. Why is it that input monitoring isnt audible when playback starts but is when playback is stopped?

I have multiple outputs on my HD I/O and they're routed to a summing mixer.

I can only hear all of the outputs from that when I input monitor my mix from the summing mixer return. Which is then monitored via AES.

That's an aside though really.

When I'm tracking or editing, everything is just set to main out, apart from the track I want LLM on.

I can get it working, but I feel the latency is still noticeable and I'm not sure it's working correctly.

I tried a session at 96k and in the setup dialog in session, it said my delay was something like 26 samples.

But then running at a 64 sample buffer at 96k I was getting that bleeding core 4 spike in system usage.

Upping the buffer cures the spike but then I'm sure it increases the LLM value too.

I feel like I notice more of a delay when the buffer is higher even though LLM is turned on and I'm fairly sure I've routed everything correctly.

I.e. The LLM path as well as audition path is set in this case to "stereo out 7" (which is the same pair of outputs the main out bus occupies)

The track I am trying to monitor/record is set to stereo out 7 too. The rest of the session is main out.

Would that cause a problem??

Hope this makes some kind of sense...

Essentially, I don't think LLM is working properly on my HD I/O and HD Native Thunderbolt rig.

Can anyone make perfect sense of it or use it without any problems at all and get pretty much the same performance as TDM systems? I don't notice latency on the HD3 system in the tracking room.
