I wanted to bring up two mix concepts that, in my mind, are contradictory that are often talked about and desirable: gluing a mix and separating elements in a mix/making it 3D.
This isn't something I've necessarily struggled with but I think it would be a good topic of conversation, especially for the beginner and intermediate mix engineer (where I fall into). Maybe some advanced engineers can add some clarity on these ideas.
So, how do aspiring mix engineers reconcile these two seemingly opposing concepts? Can a mix be 'glued' and still sound multi-dimensional/3D? And if so, how can both be achieved?
