Singal chain (outboard into RME interface)

I recently purchased an RME UFX interface. I record live acoustic performances so have a couple of mics going in to the interface.



I'm aware the RME has decent preamps and TotalMix has an inbuilt compressor, but I'm looking to expand my gear and try out different combinations of preamps and compressors bypassing the inbuilt functions in the UFX.



I'm a bit confused as to how the singal chain will look, because the UFX doesn't have send/return I/O's like cheaper interfaces.



I'm assuming I need to use the line I/O's in the UFX. Would the following signal chain work:



Mic > UFX input 1 > UFX output 1 > External Preamp input > External preamp output > External compressor input > External compressor output > UFX input 2.



Is this correct?
