Y-cable to send signal to both DAW and OTB mixer

Hello all

So I want to use a mixer during tracking for zero latency monitoring and using my outboard processing on buses and FX on channel sends. I like to hear how the mix will sound post processing etc during composition and tracking - I'm doing electronic stuff so it's important.

The problem is that the mixer doesn't have direct outs (all I can fit in to my space). I was thinking that I could send all the instruments (all line level, mostly unbalanced) into a patch bay and then use a y-cable to send the signal to both the DAW inputs and into the mixer. Then I can have a live mix going but still capture the untouched audio from each instrument for another proper mix later. Sort of like using an inline console with direct outs, but without having one :)

Now here is the newb question - I did some reading up on y-cables and it seems that something about mixing up impedances might screw around with the signals a bit. But I'm not sure if I'm mistaken.

Could someone confirm whether or not it would be bad to split the audio this way? And if so, how much degradation and of what type could I expect?

Thanks in advance...
