Ok so guys check waveforms for example of some kompakt artists
http://ift.tt/1DG3p8a ( im in love with this label and their artists, we book them here on a regular basis)
On waveforms you can see huge differences of volume between sounds, kompakt label artists tracks almost always have great dynamics, simplicity, but making great impact thanks to such approach to mixing and mastering.
My tracks for example dont have such a great dynamics and headroom, and i know it is area where i would love to improove.
At what levels as a "rule of thumb" you should mix to keep such amazing quality of track?
Usually i start with kick hitting around -5db, bass around -10, drums around -12, low freq synths around -15, pads around -20, hihats etc around -20....
too cluttered isnt it?
I really love this old school approach to mixing, but never really nailed it mysel, i guess it is a part of constant development of everyone making music...
Any advices lads on volume levels during mix process to achieve such quality?
