Hey, folks.
Appreciate all the great information that's available here. Been reading the forum for a while; this is my first post here. I've tried searching the forum for my question, but I can't seem to find it. Hope I'm not hitting a topic that's already been handled.
I've had Pro Tools for a few years, but haven't been using it to its full extent yet. Started on PT 8 LE and recently upgraded to PT 11 along with the OS upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit. The PC is an HP Z400 with a Xeon quad core processor, not the Nehalem or Westmere that are approved.
So whenever I try to record audio, I get random noises, either cracking or outright distortion. Often, Pro tools will freeze, so I have to start again.
The question is: What is the effect of trying to run Pro Tools on a machine with a processor that's not qualified by Avid? Do you think my problem is being caused by my attempt to use the wrong processor? I'd like to have a sense of this before I put out a few C-notes on a CPU and find that I still have the same problem.
HP Z400 WIN 7 64-bit
Xeon W3550 quad core processor 3.06 GHz
Memory: 8.00 GB
OS HDD: WDC WD1600HLFS-60GU2 160GB
2nd HDD: WDC WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 1TB
Thanks!
Chuck
